Going North
>> Saturday, August 22, 2009
It's taken us a little longer than originally planned to make our way north but we're leaving Malaysia for good tomorrow. We will be flying into Phuket from Penang because Thailand has changed the visa laws regarding overland travel. Instead of 30 day Visa on Arrivals they have changed it to a short 15 days. With a lot to see, 15 days is just not going to cut it so we decided to fly in and get a 30 day Visa on Arrival.
We plan on maybe staying in Phuket for a night, then moving on to Railay, Ko Phi Phi and possibly Ko Lanta. Knowing us, our plans are have most likely changed by the time you have read this. After the west coast we are going to head over to the east to visit Ko Tao and possibly Ko Pha Ngan before heading back up to Bangkok.
It was raining today so we headed to one of the many mega malls in Penang. We got a rudimentary pedicure from a bunch of very hungry fish, Garra rufa to be exact. For only 10 ringgit ($3 USD) we dipped our feet into tanks full of nibbling fish for a half hour. At first the tickling sensation bordered on unbearable, but after a while it actually became relaxing. Afterward, we decided to brush up on our western culture and went to see Up in 3D...highly recommended. Once again Disney Pixar has delivered a stunner.
All is well on the road and we are slowly but surely making it north.

We are now safe in Krabi, Thailand. We decided against staying a night in Puket because it was raining and Puket is mostly known as a beach for packaged tourism trips. The flight was a little too eventful for our liking. We were in a little prop plane flying through heavy rains for most of the time. Lets just say there was a lot of turbulence. We were never in any real danger, we're just not a fan of bumpy rides.
All is well and we're in Thailand!
Safe travels...remember there is no wrong road AND there is no rush to get there!!!

Hey Kevin...I heard about the fish pedicure as the newest spa treatment....go figure...I never would have thought you were on the cutting edge of spa treatments!
You guys are so inspiring it's ridiculous. I really enjoy reading about your travels and you make it sound so inviting/possible to leave everything behind for a few months and travel the world (if only I had the funds). Keep up the fantastic posts and pictures so I can continue to live vicariously haha. Miss you both bunches!
Kevin the beard looks very hip my friend.
You look like you are living on the edge of adventure. I'm glad to see you guys are having fun and making you way north through Thailand. The whole foot pedicure thing with fish sounds so awesome.
