Back in Yangon
>> Tuesday, September 22, 2009
We have arrived in Yangon and were pleasantly surprised by our bus ride since it took only 12 hours (instead of 15 hours like we thought). On our way we passed through the empty and excessive new capital of the military junta. The road we traveled on changed from a one lane, pot hole ridden, dusty country road into a 10 lane manicured and lit concrete highway. It only lasted for about 10 miles until we returned to near dirt roads; but it is was more than enough to realize the wasteful spending that went into building the generals a new capital.
We spent the day catching up on sleep and shopping at a local market for some goodies to bring home! Tomorrow we will finally see the well known Shwedagon before we head out for Thailand on Sept. 24 (Happy Birthday MOM!)
